Today's Journal

I watched Hallmark Christmas movies all day, while I switched between doing chores and projects, and relaxing.
  • The Christmas Promise
  • Yes, Chef! Christmas
  • Christmas Bells Are Ringing
  • Our Christmas Mural
  • Holiday Road
  • 'Twas the Night Before Christmas

This is one of the projects I worked on today...

I bought this leather recliner for Dennis 7 years ago when he finally retired at the age of 69. It was a really good quality one from Critelli's Fine Furniture downtown. It was a splurge, but I got it on sale because they were discontinuing this particular model.

It looked good for the first 5 years. And then when Dennis got sick back in early 2023 he started spending a lot more time in his chair. Of course this year, 2024, he spent even more time in his chair, particularly when he went on home oxygen 24/7.

Dennis almost always wore blue jeans and because he couldn't do much in the way of exercise he would sit in his chair and do leg exercises, like ankle circles or whatever. Denim material on leather is like sandpaper on wood. It just wears it out completely.

It got so bad that earlier this year I bought a fur throw to cover the seat cushion so it didn't look so ugly.

I decided I would try and restore the colour on the leather. I figured if it works it's a lot cheaper than buying a new chair and probably would look better than putting a cloth cover over it.

BEFORE PICS

AFTER PICS

I am pleasantly surprised. I cleaned it and put on two coats just to make it a little more even because I thought it was a wee bit streaky after only one coat. Then I applied the final product which is the protector. Leather cream. Apparently it protects the leather from moisture and staining. And it helps to bring out the sheen of the leather.

It was so satisfying covering up all the cracks and worn out spots. Woohoo.

Plus I noticed when I ordered it from Amazon I forgot to use the $10 coupon (duh) so I called customer service and they gave me a $10 credit. 😎

Today's Journal

1:30 pm - Kirkpatrick Monuments to pay balance of our headstone.

Later in the day I decided to leave the WhatsApp Family Chat. No one wants to hear about my woes and I don't like feeling ignored. I try to communicate on a deeper level and my family replies with one or two words, or just an emoji, if they reply at all. I feel like I'm not that important to my family and I'm still hurt that no one has phoned to speak with me since Dennis died 5 weeks ago, not even on Thanksgiving Day. I know Christmas will be the same. Being alone by choice hurts less than being ignored.

Today's Journal

I took the Lyrica last night for the first time. One pill, before bed, as prescribed. It was only 25 mg but I did sleep better and I had less numbness and tingling through the night.

When I got up this morning it still wasn't too bad. I got 7 hours and 45 minutes sleep, with a score of 83. That's the best I've had since this all started 6+ weeks ago. The symptoms worsened as the day went on but I still think that I'm a little better today than I was yesterday.

My doctor is starting me on the smallest dosage and I'm only taking it once a day to see how I react to it. He's going to call me in 2 weeks. If it's working great I can stay on this dosage or if it's only helping a little bit he will increase it for another 2 weeks. It won't cure the problem it's just to help you deal with the symptoms.

I guess if it works for you you take one in the morning and one at night. Apparently with my particular condition (nerve root impingement) they can prescribe as high as 250 mg per day (for some conditions it's even higher), so 25 mg is a pretty small dose. But you have to be cautious because it can be very hard on your liver.

I know you can't tell from only taking one pill but I'm hopeful that it will give me enough relief that I can get a decent night's sleep which in turn may help my body to heal faster. That's the plan anyway.

Today's Daily Affirmations
* I am manifesting my highest good.
* I choose to remain calm and let my feelings pass in difficult situations.
* I allow my positive beliefs to override my fear.
* I enjoy a stress-free work environment.
* Everything is going right in my life.
* I trust that I am being guided every step of the way.
* I recognize my oneness with the universe.
