2024 Meal Planning

Meal Planning

I have a new app called Plan To Eat. It's making meal planning so much easier and more fun. I've been using it since December 7th. You have a 14 day trial to see if you like the app. I planned out the month of December and then started on January. Now I'm actually working on February and March as well. They have the most amazing customer service. I contacted them to ask about a discount because I only want to used the calendar portion of the app, not all the other features. They simply gave me a whole year for free, no strings attached and I didn't even have to give them credit card information.

In the new year I'm going to limit the majority of my grocery shopping to three grocery stores; Food Basics, No Frills and Walmart, for everyday staple items. I'll check the grocery ads every week and aim to use items that are on sale in my meal plan. For specialty items I'll go to my favourite specialty shops like Antipasto's for olive oil and imported Mediterranean foods, and Cob's Bread for sourdough.

I'm going to aim for variety in our meal plan, and try to limit food waste as much as possible. When I make a recipe that has multiple servings I'll package up and freeze the extra servings for future use (if the recipe is freezable), and I'll pick a date and enter it on my meal plan calendar to actually eat those meals so they're not in the freezer beyond 3 months. For meals that make multiple servings that aren't freezable, I'll either cut the recipe in half or we can have the same meal two nights in a row.
