Today's Forecast

Today: Sunny early this morning then a mix of sun and cloud with 30 percent chance of showers this afternoon. Fog patches dissipating this morning. High 29°C. Humidex 36°C. UV index 9 or very high.

Tonight: Clear. Low 19°C.

HEAT WARNING
A heat event is expected to begin on Monday and persist into Tuesday.

Daytime highs are expected to be near 31 degrees Celsius with humidex values of 35 to 38. There will be little relief through the overnight as lows are expected to be 20 degrees Celsius or above.

A cooler airmass is expected to arrive Tuesday night.

The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration.

Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Air Quality: 3 - Low Risk

Today's Journal

Dennis is still in the hospital. I did not go to see him yesterday. I took another covid test this morning and I'm still positive. You're supposed to stay at home until you have no fever and symptoms are improving for at least 24 hours. I have no fever and my symptoms have improved since yesterday. After isolating, wear a well-fitted, high quality mask when out in public for 10 days from when your symptoms started. Avoid non-essential visits to vulnerable individuals (e.g. seniors) and highest risk settings (e.g., hospitals, long-term care) for 10 days from when your symptoms started.

I went over to the hospital at 11:00 am to visit Dennis. I wore a mask, a gown and rubber gloves. I bought him 3 days worth of WiFi for his phone so he could catch up on the Family Chat. I sorted out his phone, brought him some Ensure drinks and a newspaper. I only stayed about 10 minutes. My back is still really sore and I'm exhausted.

I took a 1 1/2 hour nap on the couch from 1:50 pm - 3:25 pm.

Today's Journal

Dennis has been in the hospital since Thursday morning. He wasn't too upset about that. He had a private room in the oncology suite on the third floor with a nice view and his own bathroom.

Then this morning around 7:30 a.m. we talked on the phone. He had had a very rough night and he was coughing up a lot of blood. They scanned him again and apparently he has a perforation in his lung. Dennis said he "sprung a leak".

They brought him breakfast and he said he was going to eat what he could and then try to sleep for the rest of the morning. He was going to call me at noon and let me know whether I should come in or not.

However an hour later I got a phone call and they moved him from his nice private oncology room with a view and put him in a ward with four other patients. He has covid. 😭. All five patients in the ward have both cancer and covid.

We managed to avoid it for 4 years and now that his lungs are absolute trash he gets covid. This is so freaking scary. Seems like one nightmare after another.

So this morning I thought I better test myself again and I took two rapid tests both of them came up positive. So now I can't even go in the hospital to visit him. Yesterday I was there but I wore a mask and a robe and rubber gloves plus I stayed about 10 ft away from him the whole time.

Apparently you don't have to self isolate when you have covid these days unless you're throwing up, have diarrhea or a fever. I have very mild cold symptoms. I was actually sicker last weekend when I tested negative, so who knows. The exception is that now I've had extreme back pain for the last two days. I can barely move.

I'm just so nervous about what's going on with Dennis and I don't know how he's supposed to recover from all this trauma to his poor lungs. So far he's been my little Energizer Bunny and he just keeps going, so I have to remain hopeful.

My friend suggested that I might need to take Paxlovid which helps covid go away faster, just because of my age and medical condition. But the pharmacist said there is a shortage and it's quite hard to get. And my family doctor's office is closed on the weekends so I don't even know if that's a possibility. It's hard to determine when I actually contacted covid, and the drug has to be taken within so many days of your symptoms.

Argh. When it rains it pours and this downpour has gone on and on for a couple of years.

Today's Daily Affirmations
* I follow my heart.
* I choose to see the light.
* I embrace the value of the lessons I've learned.
* I am experiencing a series of synchronicities.
* I am happy with the way things are.
* I am worthy of happiness.
* I am at peace about where I am now.
* I find beauty in life no matter what.
* I love the life I have.

Today's Journal

When I woke up this morning it felt like my flu symptoms were coming back. I had that hot burning sensation in the bridge of my nose, I have a bit of a cough, my nose is running, I have a headache and my back is really stiff and sore. I hoped that once I got up and got moving I would start to feel better as long as I was careful.

I took Tickles for our morning walk at the cemetery before it got too hot, but as the morning went on my symptoms started getting worse.

At the hospital in order to go in to see Dennis I have to put on a mask and a gown and rubber gloves. I'll have to find out if it's okay for me to even visit today. As long as I don't get close to him or breathe on him he will probably be safe enough.

I probably won't be able to spend much time visiting with him though. The timing of me getting sick again sucks. I think I must have been more rundown than I knew.

At 9:00 am I spoke on the phone with Dennis. Apparently he had a good night his breathing is easier they have them on three different puffers now, and he had the injection in his belly and he said it was no big deal no worse than a little flu shot jab. He has such a high pain tolerance it's crazy. We weren't able to talk very long because the physiotherapist came into the room and wanted to get him up and moving to and then check his oxygen level.

Later we spoke again. The physiotherapist had him walk down a hallway, and go into this little room where there was a practice staircase with four steps. He had Dennis go up and down the four stairs twice. Then he brought him back to the room and checked his oxygen level. His oxygen level dropped really low and it didn't recover. Now he's very wheezy again. Apparently the smallest amount of movement causes all kinds of problems. If they can't figure out how to get his blood oxygen levels up he's going to have to spend the whole weekend in the hospital and not much happens on the weekends, basically you're in a holding pattern.

Dennis hasn't been told anything definitive yet but he's thinking they might send him home with oxygen this time, which means we need to have someone come to the house first to sit up the oxygen tanks and explain how to use them and safety precautions etc. Oh man.

I spent a couple of hours laying on the couch not moving because my back was so sore, but eventually I got up and did the dishes and cleaned the kitchen.

I spoke with Dennis again after lunch. Apparently after the walk test they did today his blood oxygen level was dropping to 77 and it was taking ages to recover and it never has come back up over 90 yet.

They sent him for an echocardiogram. The blood clot is causing his heart to work extra hard. 😭

I left to go to the hospital at 4:00 pm. Stayed from 4:20 pm to about 5:40 pm. Dennis ate most of the dinner they brought him. I got home at 6:00 pm.

Today's Journal

I think the worst is over with my cold/flu. I woke up in a sweat this morning but I wasn't coughing, I could breathe through my nose and the exhaustion that has been plaguing me since Friday seems to be gone. Whew! My temperature is back to normal too. Poor Dennis ... I get to feel better after 4 days ... he has been congested and coughing since the fall of 2022. He never wakes up feeling better. The best he can hope for day-to-day is that he doesn't feel worse. :(
