Today's Journal
I woke up a little after 5:00 am because Dennis had one of his worst coughing fits and he was coughing up watery blood. I was incredibly worried and thought I was going to have to take him to the Emergency Department. However, the coughing subsided, the bleeding seemed to stop and Dennis insisted he was fine and just wanted to go back to bed and get more sleep.
I took his blood pressure, his heart rate, his temperature and his blood oxygen level, all were normal. I decided not to press the issue of going to the hospital, but said I would call the Cancer Centre after 8:30 am when they opened to report this issue. I let Dennis sleep as long as he wanted to, but after he got up he said he was fine and didn't want to call the oncology department. He said that coughing up blood was not on the list of reasons to call, and it really isn't a "new" symptom because he was coughing up blood back in February.
This situation is causing me a lot of anguish and I can't seem to shake the queasy feelings and sadness.
I worked hard all morning while he slept, cooking, cleaning, decluttering, taking care of the dog, and of course worrying. Later I was exhausted so I took a 1 1/2 hour nap in the afternoon.
