Today's Forecast
Today: A mix of sun and cloud. Wind becoming northwest 20 km/h this morning. High 30°C. Humidex 39°C. UV index 10 or very high.
Tonight: Mainly cloudy. Rain beginning after midnight. Risk of a thunderstorm overnight. Local amount 15 to 25 mm. Wind southwest 20 km/h becoming light this evening. Low 20°C.
HEAT WARNING
A heat event continues today.
Daytime highs are expected to be near 31 degrees Celsius with humidex values of 35 to 38.
Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category.
A cooler airmass is expected to arrive tonight.
The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues.
Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration.
Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle.
SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
Potential for heavy rainfall due to the remnants of Hurricane Beryl Wednesday and Thursday.
Hazards:
Torrential downpours giving rainfall rates of 20 to 40 mm per hour at times.
Localized rainfall totals possibly well in excess of 50 mm.
Timing:
Beginning late tonight or Wednesday, and continuing into Thursday.
Confidence:
Confidence in the track of the weather system and associated rainfall amounts is low at this point.
Discussion:
Heavy rainfall associated with the remnants of Hurricane Beryl may affect portions of southern Ontario beginning tonight or Wednesday, and may persist into Thursday.
Although confidence in the exact track of the weather system is low, these types of systems in the past have given very high rainfall rates in torrential downpours.
Rainfall warnings may be issued as confidence in the track of the system increases.
Air Quality: 3 - Low Risk
Today's Journal
I had a rough night. My cough came back with a vengeance late in the evening, and I became really exhausted, I could barely keep my eyes open. I went to bed at 8:30, tried to read my book for a bit, and was asleep by 9:00. I don't think I heard 3 minutes of the sleep story but I wanted to listen to. However, Tickles woke me up four different times last night because she wanted to go out into the backyard. And I know from experience that she only does this if she has diarrhea and she did.
I took her out at approximately 10:30, 12:30, 2:30 and 4:30. And then she finally woke me up for good at 5:30 by barking. She never barks during bedtime hours. She's been so confused and a little upset since Dennis hasn't been here. We are now looking at Day 6 of Dennis being stuck in the hospital. I hope to God they can figure out how to get him breathing again so he can come home.
However, I feel okay this morning and I tested negative for covid. Yay!
I went over to the hospital from 10:45 am to 12:30 pm to visit Dennis and help him with lunch.
Mike came over and whipper-snippered the front yard and trimmed the boxwood for me. Then I went out and swept up the grass and clippings, then mowed the lawn.
Then I back went over to the hospital from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm to visit Dennis and help him move beds, and with dinner.
